Marta Vidal (a fictional example person) has spent fifteen years helping companies in the Balearic Islands protect their information. In this interview she explains why staff training is the first line of defence.

The interview

Question: What is the most common mistake you see in companies?

Thinking that security is only a technical matter. Most incidents start with a deceptive e-mail that someone opens in a hurry.

Question: Where should an SME start?

With three things: turn on two-step verification, keep offline backups and train the team to recognise phishing.

Question: What would you tell girls who are thinking of studying cybersecurity?

To give it a try. It is a creative field, where curiosity and the way you think matter as much as technical knowledge.
